January Nature Hike

Getting ready to start out on our adventure.
One of the benefits of living in Missouri is that we always get a few warm days scattered throughout winter.  We decided to take advantage of just such a day for a nature hike, even Isaiah decided to take off work early and join us.  Even in the dead of winter we enjoyed seeing the signs of life and natural treasures we stumbled upon on the 5 mile expedition.

The girls found a pile of blue jay feathers to add to their nature notebook.

Carter taking in the little brook we crossed.
A birds nest built in a thorn bush.
The kids loved feeling the different textures of the different types of moss.
The girls were so proud of finding this mushroom.
Looks like a squirrel had his lunch here.

We had so much fun, but about half way through the walk we realized the younger kids had gotten out of practice of walking very far and Isaiah ended up carrying the two younger most of the way back to the vehicle.
